Children being treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital this month can expect a very special visit from the Giggle Doctors – professional actors, musicians and entertainers who have been specially trained by the Theodora Trust to work in hospital and hospices.
The Giggle Doctor was inspired by the mother of two brothers, who lifted their spirits when one of them was hospitalised long-term, through joy, laughter and storytelling on her many hospital visits. Her name was Theodora, and her sons set up the Theodora Trust and its Giggle Doctors in her memory.
The ACF is delighted to be funding a month’s worth of Giggle Doctor visits to Great Ormond Street this January, knowing that very sick children will feel brighter after one of these magical visits.
Since the Giggle Doctors first started working in hospitals, they have seen more than 500,000 smiles. Today, there are around 25 Giggle Doctors who visit 300,000 ill and disabled children and their families every year.
