West Heath School earns an ‘Outstanding’ report from OFSTED.

Congratulations to West Heath School for achieving an Outstanding Ofsted Report – a huge accolade and testament to the incredible work the school does in rebuilding the lives of children who are unable to attend mainstream education because of trauma they have experienced in their lives.

Ofsted’s report commends West Heath for helping its pupils make exceptional progress in their learning, ‘with many students exceeding the nationally expected rates of progress, particularly during Key Stage 4’. It also highlights that ‘all students move on to successful re-integration into mainstream schools, further education or employment’ an achievement worth celebrating, especially given the hardships some of the pupils have faced.

The report praises West Heath’s therapeutic centre, HEART, which is funded solely by The ACF, noting its ‘outstanding and powerful contribution to the manner in which students integrate successfully into the school.’ HEART welcomes pupils ‘into an environment where their personal needs are evaluated, and supported by a variety of therapies for those who find aspects of the transition more challenging’.

The report praises the teachers and school leaders, too, as well as the lesson structure and extra curricula activities which are designed to give pupils the opportunity to contribute to the local community and build their confidence by mixing in different social settings.

We were thrilled to see that Ofsted saw that the ‘principles of equality and diversity underpin all aspects of student care and support’ and that residential students ‘flourish within a nurturing and empowering environment, which values their strengths.

Well done to all the pupils and West Heath staff – a fantastic team.

The ACF is delighted to continue its support in helping the school create bright young futures.
